Body-Based Psychotherapy

Remove the obstacles getting in the way of you revealing your true self.

Rediscover the essence of who you are and have always been. Through self-compassion, kindness, and the reminder that we all have the capacity for healing, together we can encourage a gentle rewiring of your conditioned mind and synchronize it with the longings of your heart and body. Start loving who you are and what is. Easier said than done, but together, we’ll get you on the path.

Through an energetic and eclectic style of psychotherapy, I help you open the doors to your realization of the beauty, resilience, and love that you naturally are.  In our work together, there is never an agenda, but an engagement with curiosity and flowing with the wave that takes us, together, to the source of what wants to be revealed in that moment. A typical first session involves a review of client history and an understanding of your intentions for our work together. Though it takes some time for us to get to know each other and build rapport, usually within the first three sessions it is clear whether there is a mutual fit.

Beyond our relationship is your ability to create new patterns in your life. While talk therapy is extremely helpful, and a safe, nurturing relationship is of utmost importance, it is also true that simply talking about what is happening in one’s life may not be enough to break old patterns and create lasting change. Our left brains, responsible for analytical thought, are mainly at work when we talk. For the brain to create new neural pathways (and make the way for something different to happen), we need to involve the right side of the brain, which is responsible for intuition, creativity, connection to ourselves, others, and awe of this beautiful and complicated world.

We also need to remember that we do not exist from the neck up and that our bodies are chock full of information about how we can heal ourselves if we listen to what our bodies want to say.  Through the use of Somatic Experiencing® (SE) I help clients improve their body awareness and ability to allow their bodies to guide them in both their interpersonal and intrapersonal lives. My work makes use of polyvagal theory, is trauma-informed and regulation-based. In nearly two decades of experience as a psychotherapist, I have come to firmly believe that nervous system regulation is the way we can move through the most challenging aspects of life with an improved core sense of self, emotional regulation, behavioral flexibility, and resourcefulness.

I have seen rapid and profound results with my clients since I have been using SE. Unless we discover together that you are satisfied with the results you see through standalone talk therapy, we are likely to use SE in our work together. I also use Kathy Kain’s touch work in my practice. I am delighted to be offering these modalities to you as a way to aid you in your journey of embodying the fullness of who you are.
